The Family

好姿 Haozi

Haozi is a cute and active six year old girl with a developmental delay and a slight intellectual disability.  Her mother accompanies her each week to her Physical Therapy and Special Education with our FPP professionals. They have worked with Haozi on her balance and mobility training.

When she is not attending sessions at our Center, her mother walks her to a local kindergarten each morning, often teaching her new words along the way.

During the pandemic, our FPP International Volunteer Miss Dorothee began offering Haozi Speech and Language Therapy via video call.  Though she was homebound, Haozi has continued to increase her comprehension of new words. Her family is encouraged by her progress.

Haozi loves to have guests in her home. The last time our FPP teachers visited, she insisted on helping her mother to cut watermelon and to “host” our staff.

Haozi’s father renovates houses for a living and also does the interior work for new homes.  He works in the neighborhood and comes home for meals. Haozi is always very excited when Daddy comes home. Some other relatives work with her father and join the family for lunch most days. Her grandmother does the cooking, and Haozi loves to have a big bowl of rice with tofu at mealtimes.

Here is Hao Zi enjoying the ball pit located in our Sensory Room.  It is here the children utilize all kinds of tools and activities to sharpen their skills.  The ball pit, however, elicits more than its fair share of smiles from children and therapists alike.

There is something special with combining Sensory Therapy and fun that really activates the natural and seemingly boundless joy in children like Hao Zi.  So grateful for snapshots like this to brighten my day.  Enjoy!

This is a short video compiled by 好姿 Hao Zi’s mommy to show off her progress. It is such an encouraging sign that not only is her mother seeing her progress, but that she is also excited to celebrate and share it!

好姿 Hao Zi is clearly having a good time learning her shapes in a Special Education session at our Kai Fu Center!

Recently, we were able to deliver educational equipment to enable her parents to reinforce what 好姿 Hao Zi is learning from her FPP teachers while at home.

Hao Zi is a cute and active six year old girl with a developmental delay and a slight intellectual disability.  Her family lives over an hour away from our Service Center, but her mother makes the trek weekly so she can participate in Physical Therapy and Special Education with our FPP professionals.

Through therapy, her balance has improved as well as her ability to both walk and jump.  This is great for her because she likes to run around and has trouble sitting still.  When she is not attending sessions at our Center, her mother walks her to a local kindergarten each morning and is careful to teach her new words along the way.

During the pandemic, our FPP International Volunteer Miss Dorothee began offering Hao Zi Speech and Language Therapy via video call.  Though she was homebound, Hao Zi has continued to increase her comprehension of new words, though she primarily sticks to one or two syllable words when expressing herself.

Hao Zi loves to have guests in her home.  The last time our FPP teachers visited, she insisted on helping her mother cut watermelon and to “host” our staff.  Though shy at first, she warmed up quickly and became intensely curious about the “thing” our staff had brought to her home in the box.  She liked her new study table and chairs and behaved very well when she had class later sitting at her new table.

Her grandmother does the cooking and everyone treats Hao Zi very kindly. She loves to have a big bowl of rice with tofu at mealtimes.
