I recently recorded a message for FPP staff which has since been shared with families as an encouragement. The English language translation of this speech is the audio background for this video where I have taken clips of children receiving care and put them together.

Here is a recent interview I did with ICC's founder, David Gotts, during a Gala promotional event.  In it, we share the incredible story of Jia Xin and the difference the Family Partners Program has made in her life and that of her family.

I'm speechless.  I am in the middle of translating a video interview between our staff and a mother.  She shared through tears that during the pandemic she contemplated taking her life and that of her child.  She said it was the encouragement she received from our local staff that caused her to reconsider and eventually reignited hope in her heart to keep on going.

Two years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined that our new approach to family services would develop as quickly as it has.  Back then, we were launching our first Cross Care Team in order to provide holistic services to families desiring to make measurable progress toward a better tomorrow. Fast forward to 2021, and we now have THREE Cross Care Teams functioning at full capacity, with an additional two teams in the works within the next twelve months.  Each time I see a new family sit down with one of our teams, I have a surge of hope that comes from knowing what our teams are all about. Each team consists of a Social Worker with a well-trained eye for assessing and creating tailored care plans that fit a family’s needs and goals.  Each team also includes a trained Physical Therapist who is keen to help each child take concrete steps toward rehabilitation.  In addition, each team leverages the skills and experience of a Special Educator who will craft sessions around each child’s cognitive and practical growth areas. Not only will this child be empowered.  Her caregiver(s) will also become increasingly equipped.  And as a result, this family will take positive steps toward full engagement in the community the surrounds them. Love.  Hope.  Opportunity.  It is why we do what we do.  #FamilyPartnersProgramme

This is a new case that was just referred to us that reveals the need for our work: "An eight year old child is fearful of the noise at their elementary school.  Each time their mother takes them to school, they are very resistant.  Upon arrival, they attempt to climb over the railing and jump from the school building (most schools have at least 5-6 stories - one for each grade level).  The local hospital diagnosed the child as being on autistic spectrum as well as having "unspecified social and emotional disorders" (their language).  During their hospital stay, the child exhibited disruptive behavior and were discharged by the hospital." We plan to meet with this family and also bring in a professional Counselor in our network to perform an assessment.

I received a snapshot of a drawing by one of the children served by our project recently.  I am temporarily in the US and am temporarily separated from seeing their sweet faces in person.  Le Le had drawn a picture and had written my name in Chinese over one of the characters.  Her grandmother wanted me to know that she is thinking of me and my family as our Nation is now grappling with the virus here.

It really touched my heart.  It also reminded me that though we are separated by distance, the fondness that we feel for one another will neither diminish nor fade.

I miss you too, Le Le!
